For These USPS Employees, a Career Conference Changed Everything

50 Career Conferences Scheduled Nationwide in 2025

Career growth often starts with the right opportunity — just ask Kristel Hacker. A year ago, she was a retail associate in Newport News, VA, when she attended her first USPS career conference. Today, she’s the postmaster in Grantsville, MD.

“It was a great investment,” she said, crediting the conference for the tools and insights that helped advance her career.

The Postal Service is hosting 50 career conferences nationwide this year as part of the “Delivering a Brighter Future” initiative, a key component of the Delivering for America plan. These events focus on workforce development, offering USPS employees the chance to:

  • Explore job opportunities and promotions
  • Learn about different USPS career paths
  • Network with USPS leaders
  • Attend workshops on eCareer, resume building, and job applications

A new session titled “Not Interviewed, Not Selected, Now What?” has been added to guide employees who are working to improve their application success.

At her conference, Hacker learned the importance of thoughtfully completing the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) portions of job applications. She also discovered that rejection isn’t the end of the road — it’s an opportunity to grow.

“Ask for feedback. Learn how to improve. Don’t give up,” she said.

Ryan Cruz, another retail associate from Newport News, attended a conference in 2023 — just two weeks later, he landed a management role. He’s now a customer services supervisor in Chesapeake, VA.

“If you’re on the fence, be smart and make your way to a career conference,” Cruz said.

Career conferences are open to all USPS employees while off the clock. To register, visit Blue or LiteBlue and click on the career conference banner for event dates, locations, and signup details.
